What is an outreach clinic?

Transport is one of the main barriers for patients and families with neuromuscular and neurogenetic diseases in Senegal. To get to the hospital often requires private transport which can be expensive or unaffordable. Outreach clinics for rare diseases are held in different regions of Senegal to facilitate access to medical care outside the main urban area of Dakar. The clinics are organised in collaboration with a local doctor or patient association. We have held outreach clinics in Guediawaye (Hopital Roi Baduoin), Kaolack, Diourbel and Saint Louis in collaboration with Taxawuma Assistance Handicap. Within Dakar, we have also worked at Centre Talibou Dabo in Yoff.
